Check out an example below – the testimonial from mother and daughter says it all!

“SK8s ran my daughter’s sixth birthday party and it was just perfect! They worked so hard to make everything fun and safe for all the little skaters and it went down a treat with everyone having a brilliant time. There were some small, and some parent converts to skating as a result. I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking for a birthday party that’s just that bit different.

Eloise even wanted to leave her own review: “It was awesome!” – Samantha Hook.”

Join us on a Friday or Saturday night:

Fridays @ Yarborough Leisure Centre | 6pm – 8pm.

Saturdays @ North Kesteven | 5.30pm – 7.30pm.

£5 entry | £1.50 SK8 Hire | All ages & abilities welcome.

Lady MacDeath…a SK8s story!

Have you ever skated with our very own Lady MacDeath?

We are delighted to announce that one of our regulars, Eve Gormley, will be representing Great Britain in the Junior Roller Derby World Cup in Philadelphia, and we are her proud sponsors!

On 23rd and 24th July 16-year-old Eve, who is a student at Lincoln College, will join her Team GB Junior Roller Derby teammates from across the country to compete against teams from Europe, USA East, USA West, Canadteam gb roller derby lady macdeath sk8s a and Australia. It will be the first time that Great Britain has taken part.

Eve, whose roller derby nickname is ‘Lady MacDeath’ has skated with the Lincolnshire Bombinos team based in Lincoln since 2012 and is one of their longest standing members. She chose the nickname because she is an English Literature student and loves Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

“I’m so excited and honoured to have been selected for Team GB Junior Roller Derby and to have the opportunity to compete against the best junior roller derby players in the world! It’s every young person’s dream to line up alongside fantastic teammates to represent their country doing something they love and I can’t quite believe that I’m going to be doing that in July”. – Eve

Mum Beverley Gormley said:

“We’re so proud that Eve is going to be able to realise her dream of competing internationally in such an exciting sport! She’s worked extremely hard and it’s great to see her hard work and dedication paying off. I want to say a big thank you to all of her coaches at Bombinos and to her sponsor SK8s UK who have encouraged her to practice her fancy footwork at their roller discos. Without them, she wouldn’t have got this far.”

Learn to Roller SK8!

By | Learn to Skate | No Comments

The biggest fear all our new skaters have is falling. The best piece of advice we can give is to say that ‘you will fall over at least once!’ but there are tried and tested methods to prevent you doing it time and time again. Of course, we will be on hand to help you….

Just because you fall over doesn’t mean you can’t do it or that you won’t enjoy it, but we have put together some tips and selected some video’s to help you get your head around things….

Beginners – balance is key!

  • T Position is the first position to learn
  • Toes pointing inwards will take you backwards,
  • Toes pointing out will take you forward!
  • Bend your knees and start by taking a few small, duck like steps!
  • If you are familiar with scooting, use your dominant leg to push off!
  • Keep your hands low and your body slightly forward

T Position.

Learn how to Stop!

Try and use the T-Stop. This needs you to put full pressure on the right heel brake.

Learn how to fall!

You will fall every now and again. If you are committed and want to enjoy your skating expereince then you must learn how to fall safely. Watch a Video

More videos on how to start….

A long one….

A little more advanced and with blades….

Have you got any tips or video’s to share with us? We’d love to hear from you….

We have Rio Roller SK8s to hire (£1.50) but you can bring your own. The only rule is that they don’t mark the floor.  Admission is £5 and wrist guards are free. NUS card holders get FREE SK8 hire.
